Malignant mesenchymal tumors (MMT)

Malignant mesenchymal tumors (MMT) are a rare group ofneoplastic diseases, with a frequency of 0.86%. From 1 January 1996 to May 31, 2008, a period of 12 years and five months, 5,307new cases of cancer were identified in the cancer registry ofBrazzaville (RCB), which sits in the department of oncology andradiotherapy CHU Brazzaville. During this period, 46 cases ofMDA were observed, of which 33 cases (0.62%) were localized to the members, with respectively ten (30.3%) in the upper limbs and23 (69.7%) lower limbs. The average age was 36.6 years (range15 to 75 years). The main reason for consultation was the discovery of a tumor mass. The average size of the tumor was13.3 cm, with extremes of 7 and 24 cm. The average period ofconsultation was 16.5 months. The most common histological types were: differentiated sarcoma (30.3%) and fibrosarcoma(30.3%), followed by rhabdomyosarcoma (18.2%). The value of immunohistochemistry has been mentioned in the accuracy ofhistological type and the subsequent therapeutic approach. Elevenof 33 patients received no specific treatment. After 12 months, 19patients had died, seven patients were lost to sight and seven patients (4.5%) were alive.
